We’re delighted to be bringing Hey! Manchester favourites The Wave Pictures to First Chop Brewing Arm.

As big fans of Daniel Johnston, The Wave Pictures are happy to announce that they have recorded a tour-only album, The Wave Pictures Play Artistic Vice By Daniel Johnston, and will be playing songs from this release during a UK tour in October.

In 2009 The Wave Pictures acted as Daniel Johnston’s backing band on a UK tour, during which time they played songs from throughout his career. And more recently in 2013 they played two songs at a tribute night at which Daniel Johnston headlined himself.

‘… full of big sky riffs and lyrics about an America only a stranger can see… a postcard from another time and place: you’ll wish you were there’ – The Big Issue

‘… starts brilliantly with the ragged Nick Cave-ness of All My Friends… Red Cloud Road (Part Two) would fit in well on Paul Simon’s Graceland’ – NME

Support comes from Schwervon!, a two piece American rock band. Nan plays drums. Matt plays guitar. They both sing. Their band name is taken from the bastardisation of an urban slang, meaning ‘to do something well in one’s own way or in a unique manner, usually involving members of the opposite sex’. Their music is an expression of imperfect love through jagged rock minimalism. Their latest album, entitled Courage, was recorded in Memphis, Tennessee with Doug Easley (Cat Power, Pavement, Breeders). Schwervon! have toured the world performing with Belle & Sebastian, The Vaselines, The Wedding Present, Kimya Dawson, The Thermals, Jeffrey Lewis, Speedy Ortiz, R. Ring, Wussy and other luminaries.

First Chop Brewing Arm is an industrial brewing unit situated in a railway arch off Trinity Way, a 10-minute walk from Deansgate. The brewery is fully licensed and will be offering a selection of its own ales on the night, as well as other refreshments. Read more about our partnership with First Chop here.
