We’re pleased to welcome Mock Tudors, Jim E Brown and Sydney Herds to the Castle!

South Yorkshire’s attempt at an answer to Sweet meets The Undertones is here. Mock Tudors is the latest band from Tom Diffenthal (Family Selection Box, Mr Ben & the Bens), Ben Hall (Mr Ben & the Bens) and Richard Birkin (Hot Souls). Combining a power-pop knack for a hook with a bombastic stage presence that subverts the excesses of glam, the Tudors stumbled onto the pub stages of Sheffield in early 2021 and have barely got down since. With support from Marc Riley on BBC 6 Music, who had them in for a live session, the Tudors have released a 7” about bin days and an EP about tax returns. It’s public service meets the public house.

Outsider musician, dreamweaver and synth pop legend Jim E. Brown descends on his home country for the first time since his extradition from Didsbury to the USA. Singing songs about being a self-diagnosed ‘Obese Alcoholic’, accidentally eating button batteries, discarded chicken fillets in Marie Louise Gardens amongst other hard hitting social commentaries.

Sydney Herds is the shared project of Lauren Dowling of Potpourri, and Lloyd Bent, who runs Bingo Records. It formed in lockdown out of boredom, and an off-the-cuff desire to make some music under the guise of a fake solo artist – Sydney Herds – and get it played on the radio by unsuspecting DJs.
