We’re delighted to be working with AVAWAVES – plus Peter Sandberg!

Contemporary virtuoso duo AVAWAVES are rooted in cinematic narratives, evoking emotional journeys of the heart and mind. Comprising of Anna Phoebe and Aisling Brouwer, they released their debut album Waves in 2019, followed by Chrysalis in 2021.

Never conforming to expectations and yet instantly accessible, the music composed by these two creative visionaries is a sonorous consequence of two opposing forces determined to carve their identities into each other’s lives. To watch them interact on stage is a mesmerising experience, distilling the ebb and flow of their musicianship into an addictive and captivating intensity.

Anna Phoebe is a composer and violinist who has recorded and toured throughout the world with multi-platinum selling bands, as well as collaborations with the European Space Agency, Royal Ballet School and Cancer Research. Aisling Brouwer is a film composer and producer who recently scored Amazon Original Lioness – a film directed by Helena Coan about British boxing champion Nicola Adams. Other work includes the BIFA-nominated anti-racist feature White Riot and campaigns for United Nations and Dior.

AVAWAVES recently wrote an original score for Savage Waters, a feature documentary about a mission to find and surf a spectacular big wave in the Atlantic Ocean. Last autumn they played Royal Albert Hall as part of Nitin Sawhney’s Journeys: 150 Years of Immigration and they recently performed for award-winning podcast The Guilty Feminist.

Coming from mixed European backgrounds (Anna Phoebe is German/Greek/Irish and Aisling Brouwer is Dutch/Irish) and having each grown up moving around multiple countries, they met for the first time in London in 2015.

Main support comes from Peter Sandberg. Peter Sandberg is a Swedish neo-classical and electronic multi-instrumentalist/composer, who has established international reputation, creating music for television and commercials, as well as amassing over 400 million streams worldwide. His honesty speaks through his muted piano-based compositions, but also through his uplifting melodies and explorative electronica. Peter has built a diverse, rich and atmospheric catalogue, and as a result, a devoted global fanbase.

Signing to London-based ambient/post-classical label Phases Records in 2018, Peter released his debut album Motion in March 2019. The record featured the single Deep, which featured in an emotional and climactic scene of Stranger Things season 3. In September 2020, Peter released his conceptual second LP Återvända to widespread acclaim, featuring singles Rise and collaborative track Pinetrees with British electronic artist and vocalist Henry Green. That same year, Peter scored cutting-edge virtual reality animated short film Goodbye Mr Octopus, which was nominated for the 77th Venice Film Festival.

In July 2021 Peter announced his next album, Midnattssol, his ode to summer and the Swedish land of the midnight sun. Supported by preceding singles Wait and Frihet, the album was released on 1 October and features appearances from Aquilo, Jake Isaac, Siv Jakobsen and Tom Ashbrook.

Opening the show is Ellie Dorman. Ellie Dorman is a south East London based musician who released her debut album Twelve in 2017, nominated for best Concept Album (2018 – Interactive Media Awards). In 2019 Dorman released a four-track fully animated EP Near & Far; atmospheric music that sets a bed for the angular melodies that sing out over interesting chord progressions. Her set will include some new material that is more electronically influenced and is due to be released this summer.

This show takes place at Low Four Studio, the recording studio and venue on Deansgate Mews in the Great Northern.
