We’re delighted to working with Tough Love’s Weird Dreams for the first time!

Weird-Dreams-Castle-Manchester

Weird Dreams is the nom de plume of the now Paris-based multi-instrumentalist, Doran Edwards. New record Luxury Alone represents a transformation from the 2012 debut album Choreography’s guitar and harmony driven powerpop, to a more introspective synth and fantasy focused sound.

Luxury Alone was inspired at different points by the work of Daido Moriyama, Robert Ashley, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Eliane Radigue and Broadcast. An abstraction of personal, private emotion and a projection of a fantasy image, the album was written, recorded and mixed in a four-year period of uncertain times that documents loss, derealisation and the constructing of a new identity.

Edwards was joined by Dave Wade Brown and Michael Bateson-hill in the studio, and plays live as a five piece with Bateson-Hill (keys), Samuel Mason (guitar, backing vocals), Matt Turner (bass) and Cedric Monzali (drums).

‘The Ladder is a track to get lost in; it’s spacious, contemplative character swells in and out of consciousness to create a beautiful, carefully crafted piece’ – The Line of Best Fit

‘Heaven’s Hounds is a dreamy synthpop song that takes you on a fantastical journey’ – Stereogum

Support comes from San Eco. Throughout 2012, through a wall separating two studios in Manchester, two men were eavesdropping in on the completion of each other’s projects: Six Degrees by Morris Cowan (Wigflex) and The Manchester Underground EP by Tom Edney & the People Pleasers. Although differing vastly in style, their ears were drawn to the colour and melodies of the music they were creating respectively; Cowan’s bouncy and vibrant electronic post-rock techno, and Edney’s bombastic and emotive indie-pop songwriting. This curiosity led to conversations that would expose myriad shared influences, and form an agreement to try out some ideas together. Three years on, Morris Cowan and Tom Edney are set to release San Eco, their debut album in summer 2016. It’s a ten track odyssey that seamlessly blends Edney’s catchy pop-hooks with Cowan’s ethereal soundscape production; material with medicinal qualities, and the ability to make you dance; like a brisk walk down a Cornish coastline, soundtracked by Panda Bear and Caribou.
