Alasdair RobertsScottish songwriter Alasdair Roberts‘ career as a recording artist sprung into a cult phenomenon when his group Appendix Out was discovered by the revered Will Oldham. After Appendix Out’s third release, Roberts immediately recorded and released his first solo album titled The Crook of My Arm. While his output with Appendix Out always referenced the traditional folksingers his solo recordings embraced them via sparse readings of old standards with Roberts only accompanied by his acoustic guitar. Roberts began to showcase his own writing talents with his own interpretation of British (especially Scottish) folk traditions.

His most recent recording Amber Gatherers returns to a band format helping to lend a new warmth to Roberts’ spectral and haunting vocals. The gentle brushed drums, beautiful guitar lines and wheezing accordions never threaten to drown out the vocals.

Expect a mix of regional folk songs and self-penned odes to heartache, death and drink, sound like lost cuts from the late-’60s and early-’70s British folk heydays.

Elaine Palmer hails from a sleepy village on the North Yorkshire Moors and she brings the quiet calm of this idyllic setting to her music.

She has recently shared the stage with the likes of David Pajo (Papa M), Tom McRae, Neil Halstead and Thea Gilmore. Since the release of critically acclaimed second album ‘Waves’ Elaine has gone on to play with a host of artists from the modern folk scene including Bonnie Prince Billy, King Creosote and Adem.

The lovely Jenny McCormick will provide local support for the event. Be sure to arrive early to catch her.
