White Williams is the latest signing to Domino Records imprint Double Six (Eugene McGuinness, Kings Have Long Arms), which will release his debut album Smoke in April.
The Cleveland-born 24-year old has previously played live alongside Black Dice, Girl Talk, Dan Deacon and the Rapture, with regular comparisons being made to Beck and maybe even Hot Chip.
Reviewing its US release on Tigerbeat6, Pitchfork gave Smoke 8.3 out of 10:
‘Smoke’s signposts form a coherent musical worldview: In the Club is T. Rex’s The Motivator at 16 rpm, Going Down and Route to Palm work in the 1970s West African guitar colourations that Dirty Projectors, Vampire Weekend and Islands have been exploring lately, New Violence hurtles forward with a motorik bassline, and opener Headlines plays like a bubblegum version of Brian Eno’s Baby’s on Fire.’
This is White Williams’ first UK headlining show outside of London. You can read more about him in Dazed (or here or here) while enjoying his songs on Myspace?
We’re also excited to reveal that supporting at this show will be Anni Rossi, the Chicago-based violist who has been winning acclaim during her recent tours with Electrelane and the Ting Tings. Check out her video for Wheelpusher, released on Too Pure last year.
Ruby Lounge is a dedicated music venue on the edge of the Northern Quarter, along the tram lines next to the Arndale. It’s played host to Dan Deacon, The Thrills and Mystery Jets, plus its popular weekly metal/lapdancing night.
